Strike for the rest of the week, they hesitated knowing its another day where Public Services like libraries and head start places are closed with parents with no place to send children. The Union Workers are relentless to find for the money they feel they deserve. Mayor libby schaaf says she is disappointed that families are Left Without Services for three days now during the strike but says finding a resolution that doesnt impact families in the long run is more of a disappointment. She discussed the twoyear proposal the union offered which entails a 4 cost of living increase totaling 8 over two years. She says thats a big financial risk to the city and its workers. The analysis of this memo concludes that accepting that twoyear deal could lead to the elimination of 188 full time positions in the city of oakland, having devastating Service Impacts to our residents as well as real impacts to the workers who potentially could lose their jobs. They also say they are forced to move outside of oakland just to maintain a living because they simply cant afford to live in oakland anymore without that cost of living increase. The city has offered the unions a 4 increase the first year. And a 2 increase the second year. But that 2 is contingent upon generated revenue that the union says they felt was too impossible to meet. They proposed an 8 increase in pay overall over two years but mayor schaaf says they cant spend money they dont have. That would require the city to cut 188 fulltime workers because of the 19 million deficit the city would face in two years. But the fight is deeper than money tonight. The strike itself isnt sitting well with mayor libby schaaf because of the impact its having on Services Like libraries, Senior Services and head start programs and how its going to shut them down. They have the money to keep up with the cost of living. I dont understand the stubbornness of not wanting to give us what we deserve. I
