So im delighted to have a conversation about that and also about writing tonight. So doug, why dont we start, just sort of with how this idea sort of washed over you in the first place, for this book. Thank you for the nice introduction. The idea for the the odyssey of echo company came to me in afghanistan, which would have been our most recent foray into counterinsurgency in the 21st century with vietnam obviously in thevi 20th. This book has just come out and it has been a labor of love, beginning in 2005 when i was on the helicopter in afghanistan, researching my second book Horse Soldiers. I was trying to get to the pakistan border to a special forces camp, and there was a gentleman in the helicopter who seem to be a bit older than everyone else, Walking Around the area and we began to talk and we had a very pleasant conversation and finally the conversation turned to my first book, in harms way which is about uss indianapolis and the sinking of that ship in 194
