Caleb Nero was a star at Tulsa Memorial where he brought home a Class 5A state championship in 2017.
Now, he calls Fargo, North Dakota home. He is in town squaring off against Oral Roberts this weekend.
“On the court, I m more vocal now,” Nero said. “I have gotten a lot stronger and I ve gotten a lot faster.
There’s one problem: Nero said he hates the cold. Fargo regularly dips below the freezing mark, but there is one place Nero finds warmth: The gym. I don t go nowhere,” Nero said. “I don t go out, none of that. It’s just my apartment or I m practicing.
Fighting Hawks drop to 2-2 in Summit League play; host NDSU next weekend
TULSA, Okla. – (UND Athletics) The University of North Dakota men’s basketball team dropped a 74-57 decision to Oral Roberts on Saturday night from the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Okla.
UND (3-10, 2-2 Summit League) trimmed a 21-point deficit down to eight in the second half, but could not overcome Oral Roberts (6-6, 3-1 Summit League) and had to settle for the weekend split.
Caleb Nero enjoyed his best game as a Fighting Hawk in his second game in his hometown, scoring a game-high 17 points on 6-of-14 from the field while adding three assists and a pair of rebounds. TULSA, Okla. (UND Athletics) – Seybian Sims forced a turnover and converted a free throw before a Filip Rebraca block at the buzzer sealed a 72-71 North Dakota victory over Oral Roberts on Friday night from the Mabee Center in Tulsa.
UND (3-9, 2-1 Summit League) battled back from a halftime deficit and a two-point Oral Roberts (5-6, 2-1 Summit League) lead with just over a minute to play to pick up its first road win of the season and snap an eight-game home winning streak for ORU.
The Fighting Hawks had four of their five starters reach double figures, led by Filip Rebraca’s game-high 24 points on 11-of-20 shooting. The junior also had a season-best nine rebounds and came up with a pair of huge rejections.
