National Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration aimed at honoring and recognizing Hispanic and Latinx roots and contributions in the U.S. This year, it took place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, and Cal Poly celebrated this culturally rich month through several community and arts events as it works towards becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
Recently, Cal Poly vocalized its efforts on trying to become a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Throughout October 2023, the campus hosted a series of events and symposiums to discuss how they are approaching this transition and the importance of being a diversity-achieving and inclusive institution.
– As part of a collaboration years in the making, the Latino Outreach Council of San Luis Obispo County and Cal Poly’s Office of University Diversity and Inclusion are co-sponsoring the showing of “La Perla,” an iconic Mexican-American film, during the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at the Fremont Theater.
