He was appointed curate at Bush Hill Park in Enfield before becoming priest in charge at a parish in New Milton, Hampshire. Mr Shillaker was married to his wife, Christine, for 59 years and they had a son, Mark, and daughters, Frances and Mary, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In 1969 the family moved to Chelmsford where he served the parish of St Luke’s on Moulsham Lodge. Sixteen years later they moved again, to Colchester where he took charge of the combined parish of the former parishes of St Leonard-at-the-Hythe, St Mary Magdalen and St Stephen’s. He was instrumental in beginning the much-needed renewal of the church buildings at St Stephen’s.

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) has announced No. 2999 Lady of Legend will be the star guest of the railway’s Spring Steam Up in April.
This unique locomotive is the only Saint class engine in existence and is set to prove a big draw to steam enthusiasts at the event, which takes place from April 15-18.
Lady of Legend was rebuilt by the Great Western Society at Didcot Railway Centre, and completed in 2019.

An anti-HS2 protester who emerged from an underground tunnel after spending 19 days there has appeared in court.
Police are appealing for information following the a stabbing in Wellington Road, Enfield. Officers were called to reports of a male stabbed in the area at about 3.40pm yesterday (Wednesday, February. 10). A man, aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital. His condition is critical. Detectives from North Area CID are investigating. A crime scene has been put in place. There has been no arrest at this early stage. Any witnesses or anyone with information are urged to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4266/10feb. Or to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers. A Section 60 is in place for the Enfield Highway, Ponders Ends and Bush Hill Park areas until 11.30am today (Thursday, February 11).

Coronavirus infection rates have dropped in Enfield and Haringey Coronavirus infection rates in Enfield and Haringey are now close to the UK average following further steep falls. Both boroughs saw their infection rates drop by 40 per cent during the seven days to February 3 compared to the previous seven-day period. Enfield saw 215 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people – down from 360 during the week to January 27. Haringey recorded 201 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people – down from 333 during the previous seven days. It brings both boroughs close to the UK average infection rate of 209 new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people.
