Covid rates are now below 100 cases per 100,000 people Seven-day Covid-19 infection rates in Enfield and Haringey have dropped below 100 new cases per 100,000 people. The infection rates in both boroughs are significantly below the UK average and lower than those in most other local authorities in London. It came as Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a roadmap out of lockdown in England, which could see all restrictions lifted from June 21. Enfield, which had one of the highest rates in the country at the beginning of January, saw just 72 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 17 – a 41 per cent drop compared to the previous week.

Coronavirus infection rates have dropped in Enfield and Haringey Coronavirus infection rates in Enfield and Haringey are now close to the UK average following further steep falls. Both boroughs saw their infection rates drop by 40 per cent during the seven days to February 3 compared to the previous seven-day period. Enfield saw 215 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people – down from 360 during the week to January 27. Haringey recorded 201 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people – down from 333 during the previous seven days. It brings both boroughs close to the UK average infection rate of 209 new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people.

The seven-day Covid-19 infection rate fell sharply in Barnet (Image: Pixabay) The seven-day coronavirus infection rate has fallen sharply in Barnet, weeks after a stringent national lockdown was imposed. The number of new Covid-19 cases in the borough was 553.7 per 100,000 people in the seven days to January 20, according to the latest data from Public Health England. This is a 45 per cent drop on the 999 cases per 100,000 recorded in the week to January 8 and a 27 per cent fall compared to the previous seven days. Despite the downward trend, Barnet’s rate was higher than the infection rate for the UK as a whole, which was 390.5 cases per 100,000 people.
Haringey was down 2.3pc on the week before and Camden was down 3.1pc.
It was the first time Camden’s infection rate had dropped, week-on-week, since December 5, and the first time Haringey’s had fallen since November 27.
The local picture
But the decrease is not happening everywhere. In Camden, cases were up by 23.3pc in Abbey Road, 20.4pc in the Caledonian Road area, 14pc in the Fitzjohns and Royal Free area, and 6.1pc in Hampstead town.
But in South Hampstead cases were down 28.6pc and in West Hampstead they had fallen by 12.1pc. Tufnell Park West had seen infections plummet by 57.8pc.
