Found out that hundreds of homes may have been destroyed in the fire as the flames moved into the lower lake area. Now, it started saturday night off highway 29 and Clayton Creek road. The devastation really incredible here. We are getting a better look at how this fire just swept through lower lake, and this was essentially a winddriven firearm storm. It blew through the downtown area where we are this morning. It caused an incredible amount of damage. A number of businesses were destroyed, including what you see here. The offices for habitat for humanity of lake county. This is still smoldering here, whats left of this building. And we have fire crews who are here at this scene in the downtown area trying to put out some of the hot spots. Next door you can see this was an auto shown, we are told. And

Calfire says more than 100 homes have been destroyed in the fire. And 3,000 acres have burned. It is just 5 contained. Thousands of people have had to evacuate from their homes. About 1,000 firefighters are now trying to get that fire under control. The fire started saturday night off highway 29 in Clayton Creek road. The video shows the four attempting to leave. First trying to get in the wrong taxi. Then finding their own. A Security Guard approaches the vehicle with his hand raised. Minutes later, athletes exit the taxi, one appears to remove his wallet, another briefly raises his hands. Another few minutes later, a different camera shows the swimmers sitting on a curb. One holds his hands up, another appears to reach into his pocket. Witnesses told authorities the athletes offered to pay for the damage and left behind about 70 dollars. But refused to wait for police. what we can confirm is there was no robbery the way it was claimed by the athletes grant now to the huge wildfire in San Bernardino county that some firefighters are referring to as a career fire. Police station. Reporter this is the first of many meetings to avoid a stopping shortage. They called the meeting productive. To give you some perspective, city leaders say 500 officers are needed to patrol the speak streets in san jose. Right now, the city of 1 million people. Its well below that. By next month you could see more officers back on the street. We got numbers that were so horrific just within the last week, were talking about over 340 10 hour shifts that need to be filled every single week in patrol. Reporter the move was triggered by this letter to the police union detailing the numbers. In the latest bid, only 413 officers available for patrol, below the minimum of 500 officers before the gap in positions backfilled with overtime. That has proven costly.
