death but politicians in both parties liked george w. bush and worked with them on a range of issues, the americans with disabilities act to cite one example, the budget compromise they work with him on which hurt him politically but was a bipartisan things so i don t think it was personal. this loathing of trump is a force of nature, orders of magnitude greater than what they felt, a lot of my colleagues in the media badly misjudged him and his presidency and that changed with them but i don t think the politicians ever particularly detested him . he goes on to talk about the fact that people who weren t so loved by the media 10 or 15 or 20 years ago like bush 41, even
the politicians in both parties like george h.w. bush and they worked with him on a range of issues. the americans with disabilities act to cite one example, the budget compromise that they worked with him on which hurt horton politically but was a bipartisan thing. i don t think it was personal. this loathing of trump is a porch of nature. it is orders of magnitude greater than what they felt about bush. for my colleagues in the media, a lot of them badly misjudged him and his presidency, that has changed with them. i don t think the politicians ever particularly detested him. shannon: he was under talk about the fact that people who weren t so plump with the media in ten years ago like bush 41, even john mccain, parente liked him when he was bashing people they wanted to bash as well and he said, all of these tributes to them and their death are often ended with this kick in the back against trump.
standard. so you re watching the president today. in a few minutes, he s going to be back with those baltic state leaders from lithuania, latvia and astonia. interesting time, too, with what s going on with russia and him getting tougher on that. right now this harder stance on immigration, what do you make of it? i think there are several reasons why this is back in the news. there s the caravan going through mexico, which apparently has been stopped. also, this new budget deal. any time you get a bipartisan budget compromise, there s a strong bias toward the status quo, which means the president didn t get the money he need for the wall. that really brought it back in the news. got a lot of complaints from immigration hawks. but we re basically stuff at the same place where we were back in february. it seems like they were closer than imagined a year ago, with president trump said he would compromise and grant amnesty, even citizenship, to 1.8 million illegal immigrants who came h
democrats, then looking at the paper from the agencies and saying this is what he does, what s the answer? it is a high wire act i think for democrats. and they have been talk about this from the very beginning. how do you make deals with someone who is basically poking their base every single day with real things. but i think that that what we have seen with the daca fix, perhaps, and with the budget compromise is that democrats feel like even if in the short-term they can come together, come up with something that reduces harm for large swaths of the population as far as they re concerned, that s better than doing nothing. even if it means still resisting trump on civil rights issues or resisting trump on, you know, birth control, and other issues. but it is tough. it is very tough. i don t know how long this is going to last. i think the obamacare potential obamacare deal will be maybe the hardest of them all. it really puts the issues right
all right, new jersey governor chris christie under fire for spending sunday with his family at a state beach, a state beach he shut down because of a budget standoff and arguably lying about his time there. the government shutdown is now entering the third day in new jersey. paul sandoval joins us now. how do we go from this state shutdown to talking about governor chris christie on the beach. state legislators and governor christie have not been able to reach a budget compromise, the governor insists on the passage of a health insurance bill with the state budget. that hasn t happened. the result, a partial state government shutdown and the closure of dozens of state parks and public beaches over the fourth of july holiday. that means families can t make their way on to the garden state s public beaches. except one. photos emerging showing governor christie on island beach state park, this is the barrier island
