Young scientist revolutionises blood glucose test

May 6, 2021 A young scientist who developed a way to test blood glucose levels without using the traditional way of pricking the finger, will compete against more than a thousand scientists in the world’s largest science fair, the 2021 Virtual Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the US. The scientist is Eskom Expo for Young Scientists’ top senior scientist for 2020, Hritik Mitha, a grade 12 learner at Bryanston High School in Johannesburg. His project, “Non-invasive blood glucose level monitoring device”, is aimed at mitigating the drawbacks of the invasive glucometer test. He developed prototypes that proved to be practical and effective in measuring glucose levels to a clinical standard.

Ex-Bryanston High netball coach accused of sexual assault applies for case to be dismissed

Moodley was arrested in 2019 after a 17-year-old and her mother opened a criminal case against him. A magistrate is expected to make a ruling on his dismissal application in May. The former Bryanston High School sports coach accused of rape and sexual assault has petitioned the Alexandra Magistrate s Court to have the charges against him dismissed, due to insufficient evidence. On Monday, lawyers for Aleshan Moodley brought a 174 application in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Bryanston High SGB accused of ignoring sexual abuse victim The rape case against a former Bryanston High School sports coach has been postponed to 26 April, at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court The sexual abuse case against a former Bryanston High School sports coach is nearing the end. Aleshan Moodley is accused of sexually assaulting and raping a pupil. He was arrested by police in January 2019 after a pupil at the school reported the matter. The organisation Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) has been following the court proceedings at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, more than two years after the suspect was handcuffed. The organisation is less than pleased with the Bryanston High School Governing Body (SGB), claiming it has failed to support the victim.
