Laura it all happened here at this hyvee parking lot on south east 14th. Witness kalyna thomas says she believes the child would be dead had she not stepped in. She was punching the baby so hard. Laura kalyna thomas says she couldnt look away after seeing 28yearold shauna davis brutally beat her toddler son. She was punching her baby in the face and she literally threw her baby onto the cement. Laura then, the horrific scene kept getting worse. This whole time, the toddler, who thomas estimates to be around two years old was crying and screaming in pain. A spec is one thing but that was like she was fighting an adult laura . Thomas laura thomas says she tried to reason with davis. I was like, are you ok . She was like, i wasnt hitting my baby. Laura davis gave police the same story when she arrived, saying she was only upset because she lost her wallet. A police report, officers report to the toddler said, mama hurt. Shooting a weapon at the officers. They fired back. The man, who police say was in his early 20s, was fatally wounded. He has since died from his injuries. The two officers and the k9 were not hurt. Police are waiting to release the suspects name until family has been notified. As part of procedure, the two officers involved in the shooting are now on paid administrative leave. Last week, the Iowa City School board voted to report all threats to police and parents. That was after West High School didnt report a a gun to school on social media. Has reported three incidents since last wednesday. The Iowa City Community School District sent out an email to families yesterday. It said the district plans to evaluate any alleged threat for potential danger and then decide the correct response.
