Shock G, Digital Underground Rapper, Dies at 57
The rapper helped put Tupac Shakur on the map

Digital Underground’s Shock G died on Thursday at the age of 57, the rapper’s father confirmed to TMZ. No cause of death was given, but Shock G’s dad told TMZ he was found in a hotel room in Tampa.
Chopmaster J, a founding member of Digital Underground, also confirmed the news on Instagram, writing, “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Shock, whose real name is Gregory Jacobs, helped create the Bay-Area-based Hip Hop band Digital Underground in 1987, which spawned the career of one of Hip Hop’s most prolific icons to date; Tupac Shakur. Also, Jacobs’ self-created alter ego Humpty Hump made up the classic “Humpty Dance” that helped popularize the group in 1989.
Jacobs’ death was announced via social media by friend and bandmate Chopmaster J, who wrote, “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Another heartbreaking loss for the hip hop community. Shock G, famous for his hit song The Humpty Dance with Digital Underground, and his work with 2Pac, has passed away at the age of 57.
The hip hop legend was found dead in his hotel room in Tampa, Florida according to his father Edward Racker. The cause of death is still unclear yet there were no signs of foul play or trauma. An autopsy will be performed.
Shock was also famous for his collaborations with 2Pac as he s featured on 2Pac s 1993 song I Get Around. Shock G was also one of the producers on Tupac s 1991 debut solo album, 2Pacalyse Now.

Hip-Hop is losing too many legends in a short period of time. First we lost the great DMX and then Black Rob and now we have lost another legend, Shock G also known as Humpty Hump from the legendary group that launched Tupac s career Digital Underground.
According to AllHipHop.com and many other sources, the Bay Area rhyme master has passed away. This has been confirmed by group member Chopmaster J who had this to say: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”
