Giant Snowman towers over homes along the Rideau Canal

OTTAWA Many people across the city of Ottawa made use of the perfect snow to build a snowman over the weekend, and some of them are huge. If you were looking for a big snowman, look no further than Queen Elizabeth Drive between the Bank Street and Bronson Street bridges. According to one of its creators, Kent Woodhall, the massive snowman stands about 14 feet tall, which made physical distancing a breeze when Woodhall and his neighbours created the massive figure. It really gives us a sense of community. It s really important we re able to help each other out when we need it, says Woodhall, a retired frontline health care worker who has been volunteering with vaccinations.

Fort Collins Stabbing Put Nearby Schools on Secure Status

A stabbing on the 2100 block of Bronson Street put three Fort Collins schools briefly on secure status on Thursday (Jan. 14). A 74-year-old male allegedly stabbed a 65-year-old female victim, who was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. When authorities arrived on the scene around 10 a.m., the suspect refused to exit the home. A SWAT team was brought in for the situation. Around 12:45 p.m. officers entered the home and were able to safely contact the man. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for evaluation after the incident. I m grateful for the work of our first responder partners who helped provide care for all involved in this incident, said FCPS Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky in a press release about the incident.
