This is april 1775, right after lexington and concord, through the declaration of independence. This is sometimes called the Popular Uprising phase. And this is the year of the revolution that probably more people supported the war than any other one. Why do you suppose theres so much support for the war this year . Any ideas . And i have some images to show you. Theres a historian named charles roister and he coined this phrase, rage militaire. And it says, the rage militaire has taken hold on the entire continent. That is really great. I love your emphasis on the challenge and creativity involved. And i guess it underscores a key point especially when were trying to write about enslaved women who are really known to us almost primarily either relationship to someone who enslaved them and you think about the incredible achievement of erika dunbar writing that biography of judge and letting her be an individual in her own right and letting her have her own life when you only have to point of access to her individual voice. Interviews she gave in the mid19th century describing what happened when she ran away from washington so i think you make such an important point about seeing women asindividuals and not just in their relationship to other people so thank you a lot. Recorded this event in november of 2017. We are fortunate to have an old friend with us, richard schroeder, a former officer with the cia clandestine service. He began his career under the cia in 1972. After two years in the army as an Intelligence Officer for the army stuff in washington, the u. S. Military command in vietnam. He consults on National Security and teaches that georgetown. He is a founding Advisory Board member here at the International Spy museum. He is the author of a new book, the foundation of the cia, harry truman, the missouri gang, and the origins of the cold war. You are not here to listen to me talk. Rick, come on up.
