NYSC commences annual launch of CDS activities

Share In a bid to improve and sustain its Community Development Services(CDS), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reorganized and commenced the annual launch of the programme. It said this became imperative as the passion that had driven the activities have continued to dwindle. Speaking at the formal launch of the 2021 CDS activities and presentation of awards on Thursday in Abuja, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his address, said this is due to poor incentives for Corps members who execute projects, lack of support from the community leaders among others. Apart from this, he said inadequate financial and material resources, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, were also contributory factors.

48 corps members benefit N16 5m business grant

Share A total of forty-eight Corps Members have received a total of N16.5million Unity Bank’s business grants to finance their businesses. This is coming after their business proposals which cover agriculture; craft and fashion design, education, shoemaking among others scaled through different stages of professional vetting. In his virtual interaction with Corps beneficiaries on Monday, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim said the Corps Members were selected from NYSC Orientation Camps in Edo, FCT, Lagos and Ogun States. While commending the Bank for providing financial grants to beneficiaries, he said the pilot project of the “Corpreneurship Challenge” would create opportunities for self-employment and wealth creation and also reduce the increasing number of unemployed graduate youths.

While making the donation during the Presidential Steering Committee Press Briefing on COVID-19, the Chairperson, Victim Support Fund COVID-19 Task Force, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, said the donation was the single largest donation of rapid test kits to the NYSC, which would be used during its forthcoming orientation course. She commended the Federal Government, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, the NCDC and NYSC Director-General for their tireless efforts in tackling the dreaded virus.
