NYSC empowers 30 corps members with N9 million under SAED

Share The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has under its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED), empowered 30 corps members with a total sum of N9 million. It said the winners, drawn from three states received a package of business mentoring and funding totalling N3,000,000 for corps members per camp. Speaking at the 2021 NYSC SAED Stakeholders’ Meeting and Training of Desk Officers, held at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim identified inadequate funding as a major challenge affecting its skills acquisition programme. He said the scheme will strive to ensure that it sustains and build on the achievements made within the last year towards making corps members employers of labour.

Ibrahim stated this on Monday at the 2021 NYSC SAED stakeholders’ meeting and training of desk officers in Abuja. A statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, Adenike Adeyemi, quoted Ibrahim as saying that despite paucity of funds, the scheme has recorded tremendous success in the implementation of the programme. He said: “The scheme will not rest on its oars in its quest to sustain and build on the achievements made within the last one year towards making corps members employers of labour.

Corps members key to achieving Mambilla power project —North-East govs

Share Representatives of the North-East Governors’ Forum have described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as a critical stakeholder in the actualisation of the multibillion naira Mambila Hydro-power project. The group, which is a fact-finding committee constituted by governors of the six states in the North-East, revealed that corps members’ potential is very strategic to the power project. The leader of the delegation, Mijinyawa Yahaya, representing Gombe State stated this when he led other members of the group on a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his office in Abuja. Other members of the delegation are  Stephen Abubakar  (Bauchi State);  Bukar Buni (Yobe State); Ibrahim Njidda (Borno State); Mr John Yarafa (Taraba State); Babayola Toungo (Adamawa State) and the Managing Director, Hypertech, Mustapha Muhammed.
