and who is against it. majority leader chuck schumer is calling a vote on the women s health care act, an unusual move because he doesn t have the votes. only 49 senators are expected to say yes, 11 short of what it would need to pass. speaking from the senate floor, schumer said he was pushing forward because it was time for each member of that body to tell the american public where they stand. before the day is over every member of this body will make a choice, vote to protect the fundamental rights of women across the country or stand with five conservative justices ready to destroy these rights in one felled swoop. today s vote is one of the most consequential we will take in decades because for the first time in 50 years a conservative majority, an extreme majority on the supreme court is on the brink of declaring that women do not have freedom over their own bodies. this is also about the mid terms for democrats with polling and a century s worth of history keeping
Your car into your driveway, park your car, get out of your car and you then see a guy jogging down your road. Pretty good pace. Running past your house and think okay, no big deal then a few seconds later, you see two fairly burly dudes running after that guy, chasing them as fast as they can, and from what you can tell, youre not totally sure but kind of looks like those guys doing the chasing maybe have guns. Now in this hypothetical instance, you decide youre not going to be a by stander to the chase scene, you decide youre going to intervene, and so you get back in your car, start the engine, throw it in reverse and back your car out. You back your car out, so it blocks the road. You block the two burly guys chasing the other guy. You physically stop them in the street and those guys stop because they have to but they are really mad at you because you stopped them, and then they tell you that they are cops. And that is why they, in fact, have funs, and they show you their badges a
Going to be just a bystand ear to this chase scene. You decide that youre going to intervene. And so, you get back in your car, start the engine, throw it in reverse and back your car out. You back your car out so it blocks the road. You block the two burly guys who were chasing the other guy. You physically stop them in the street and those guys stop because they have to but they are really mad at you because you stopped them, and then they tell you that they are cops. And that is why they, in fact, have guns, and they show you their badges and theyre real badges and they tell you in no Uncertain Terms the reason they were running so fast down your street is because they were chasing a guy and the guy they were chasing just robbed a bank. You say, oh, no, oh, dear, sorry, officers. You get back into your car and throw it into gear and clear the road and they resume their pursuit. Very mad at you. Now, if you had no idea they were cops, no idea of any of this. If this was an innocent m
Expectation was that no one would care. It turns out people cared. The country cares. And amid the public outcry against this policy, on june 20th, President Trump formally ended his administrations policy to continue to take parents away from their kids. Today it is supposedly not the policy anymore. Because of the haphazard way they implemented it in the first place, because they literally developed no plan while they were ripping kids out of their parents arms, to keep track of where they were sending those parents and the kids, the court has ordered the president to give the kids back, 500 of them still havent been given back and the advocacy organizations, like the aclu, fighting the administration in court, tell us that theres no real sign the administration is working all that hard to fix that and to get the kids back, even though now they are under court order. So this scandal, it wears on day after day. Week after week when we do hear about rare belated reunions between parent
Critically ill. Initially there had been four people in custody in conjunction with these killings. One of those in custody is believed to be the gunman. Hes already showed up in court in new zealand today. Interestingly, new zealand authorities announced that his Court Proceedings today and presumably his future Court Proceedings as well will be closed. They will not be open to the public. Nobody will be allowed to observe them. Theyre describing that as a security decision. That may also have implications in terms of how much this guy wants to continue to try to be a propagandist for his terrorististic ideas that led him to do this as hes done in his online writings as well. Of the other people who were arrested besides him, police had said originally that it was two men and one woman who were arrested in addition to the guy who is believed to be the gunman. Police initially said they were picked up because at least some, if not all of them, had firearms near the scene of the crime.
