Cannon made regarding the maralago search. She told d. O. J. She would not honor the request to get access to the 100 classified documents so it could continue its investigation. Which it says has National Security implications. The court does not find it appropriate to accept the governments conclusions on these important and disputed issues without further review by a neutral third party. And that there are ongoing factual and legal disputes. She also cited media links as part of her basis for rejecting d. O. J. s request. Now if youre asking, with the ongoing and factual legal disputes, we will discuss that. A Special Master was appointed, Raymond Dearie, a former chief judge of the Eastern District of new york and the only candidate that the sides agreed on. Who is he . And why would both sides want him . And joins me is Julie Ainsley who is covering the Justice Department, National Reporter for the washington post, carol leonig, executive ron Line Director for the new yorker, david road, and all msnbc contributors. So julia, when you read through the decision, from judge cannon, she makes a lot of statements like you cant, that basically say i cant entirely trust d. O. J. , when it says these documents are classified and i cant entirely Truss Treasure Trust d. O. J. When it says there are National Security issues at play and oh, by the way im worried about media leaks. Walk through this decision and how the dorj might respond. Well, we do expect them to respond today, with very likely that we will soon see an appeal to the 11th circuit basically going above this district judge, saying they need an Emergency Stay on that order. Her order, as you pointed out, goes through all of the reasons that she doesnt trust the Justice Department, to handle these materials. And she thinks that Raymond Dearie, the neutral third party, that she has now appointed is the man to go through these documents and decide what is attorneyclient privilege, what might fall under Executive Privilege, although it is hard to see what if any that would fall into, and to see what exactly should stay in the hands of the government. Now this comes at point in the case where the fbi filterer team has already gone through pages and pages of documents, taking them almost a month to do. And hand it over to investigators who also have a separate intelligence Damage Assessment that judge cannon has allowed to keep going. But basically, the Justice Department has said thats not enough to just have the assessment of damage to our intelligence. You cant split the baby here. We have people working on both teams and we have an ongoing investigation. To stop this now, when theyre cultivating witnesses, sources trying to get to the bottom of what is in the documents but low it was handled which is a very sweet piece of this, to see what National Security implications this may have, they are really going to put a Chilling Effect on this investigation. And shes given Raymond Dearie until november 30th. So thats over two months, to hit the pause button, on what theyre able to do, and go through, in these assessments. David, i think its really important that, and really dangerous, to label people trump judges or obama judges or clinton judges or bush judges, the Justice Department is supposed to be above all that, but when you read a decision like this, its lard hard not to worry about the motivation. Am i wrong about that . No, i dont think youre wrong but i really want to blame donald trump for this, and this is, im concerned that this is, this shows the impact hes had on the judiciary. All of the tweets, all of the talk of obama judges, he is the one who started this. Hes the one who started the idea of locking up your political opponents by saying lock her up. And so im afraid that judge cannon is somehow afraid of offending donald trump, and ruling against him. She just goes out of her way, basically to punt this decision to judge dearie. She is a judge, she should be a neutral third party themselves. So thats what is so, what worries me, and more broadly, for the American Public, and in a positive note, half, about half of the 80 judges who rejected Donald Trumps claim that the 2020 election was stolen were republican appointed. Many of them were trump appointed. The Judicial Branch stood up to his attempted coup. So judge dearie was appointed by ronald reagan, a fair judge, a great reputation, so i think the system works, i think dearie will do the right thing, but its just a really sort of sad moment i think for the judiciary. Lets talk about who dearie is and i want to go to you on that, carolyn, and this is the one person who the trump team ability d. O. J. Team agreed on, walk us who he is and the open question is how do they find somebody that they both agree on . Well, you know, hes a denizen of new york, so President Trump has a predilection for that and may have had some interactions with him, i dont mean anything inappropriate but may have run into the person through the Eastern District of new york where donald trump had a lot of business interests, and development. But judge dearies reputation is really completely top notch. Adoubledouble plusplus in the bond market. And what is interesting about it, he served on the fisa court. For those of you viewers who dont know, the foreign sejs surveillance court, it makes secret decisions with nobody looking and all ex parte, based on prosecutors presentation, about whether or not the secret surveillance, potential spies, potential suspected terrorists. And this kind of judge is chosen ever so carefully by the u. S. Supreme court Chief Justice normally. Theyre recommended by their peers. For their care. Their rigor. I dont know if this is a word, kay but their cerebrality, but thats the word that fits. And i think one of the dangers that david pointed out well is that the impression is left that judge cannon is in the tank for judge, forgive me, donald trump, there is no way that judge dearie is going to be seen that way. But the real problem is, the stall of the investigation, and the stall of the National Security prosecutors ability to assess, along with intel sources, and intel officials, are there people we need to pull out of the field . Are there secret operations and methods and Human Sources as alleged in some of governments filings that are now, you know, compromised . That we now have to basically moth ball or retrieve from their foreign assignments . And stopping this midway, and deciding that you dont trust the government about what is classified, strikes me as kind of bizarre. The business of The Department of justice, and the National Security position thats running in operation made a probable cause showing to a federal judge that they were likely to find classified information when they searched maralago in august, and guess what . They were right. The probable cause was on the money. And a federal judge ruled that. So this finding that she doesnt trust them on that score is odd. How much more authority does she have as this goes on, paul . She declared herself the sole arbiter, and any challenges to dearies decision. And im trying to understand this. Does that mean any objection to dearies recommendations will come back to her and she will be the one to be able to decide it and thats the way it will be . What is de novo mean . De novo means it is her position. So the Special Master will be a recommendation to judge cannon, and shell take it from there. The decision she made is so unorthodox, i think shes got to be worried about getting reversed on appeal, so she did throw the Justice Department a couple of bones. She said that the Special Master can adjust her order after he rfbs the reviews the documents and the prosecutors cant present the seized materials to the grand jury or ask witnesses about them, but they can investigate how these materials were stored. And of course, The Departments position is thats not good enough for an urgent National Security investigation, and thats why it is appealing that aspect of the judges decision. So it goes to the 11th circuit. Correct me if im wrong on that. And how long might it take to get decided, paul . As long as the 11th circuit must take. Again, i hope that the judge understands the National Security implications. Katy, weve learned that there were folders marked classified, 50, that were empty. What happened to those materials . Again, thats got to be the highest priority. Of course there is a concern that the 11th Circuit Consists primarily of judges who were appointed by donald trump, but as weve heard, just because trump appointed a judge doesnt mean that she or he doesnt believe in the rule of law. David, what about judge cannon said, that you need to maintain at least the appearance of fairness here. And this is a special case. This is a unique case. It is against a former president of the United States who has been railing against the justice system. Is there any merit to that . You do want to appear fair. You want people to believe in our judicial system. But whats strange is that shes basically arguing that donald trump gets, you know, extra treatment, compared to another american, because hes a former president. And i believe that donald trump, and hes been doing there for years, but he is running id say a campaign again to try to discredit the judiciary. Hes kind of mocked obama judges. When judges ruled against him, he dismissed them. He talked in one of the new revelations is that he somehow wanted congress to pass a bill to get rid of, you know, a group of Appeals Court judges, which just is improper, but these are the tactics used by authoritarian leaders. Victor orban would sideline and overrule judges that were against him in hungary. And when you look at the 2020 election, he is trying to discredit the Judicial Branch to americans, and thats very dangerous. Used to have a lot of trust in the American Public and that trust has gone down remarkably. Carol, when she talks about the ongoing fact uable disputes here, it appears she is talking about the classified documents and whether theyre classified and the government has put forth a lot of information about the Classification Levels that they found there, including some of the most sensitive documents that the government says it has, and your paper has been reporting about information regarding the Nuclear Capabilities of a foreign country. The trump teem has said that he declassified the documents but the trump team lass not offered any proof of that. So can you decipher what exactly she is saying in terms of a dispute when one side is not offering the evidence . Well, you have to really, you asked a good set of questions and i want to take one at a time, one is trump and one is detrump. And donald trump said on the other day, i declassified all of this, and in Court Filings where lawyers are much more serious about what you claim in a court filing, or claim with your name in any court proceeding, you can be punished for misleading or lying in those settings, lose your bar license, those lawyers for the former president have said some of this stuff may not currently be classified, may not be currently classified, i remember when i read that, and i kept waiting for some element or example, and none were provided, and no evidence was provided. As for the dispute, it is kind of like in the air about whether or not things are classified. How can you distrust the photographs of what all high level National Security officials recognize right off the bat about an orange border, which is the key code for top secret secure compartmented information. How can that be fabricated . The other thing again, i would just go back to is, another judge has already found probable cause that this is what they would find, and then they found it. There has been no really substantial debate or argument made by team trump in court, in the filings, where it matters, that this stuff is not classified. Now on the Executive Privilege, katy, also really interesting, because most of the records the government has been seeking have been initially at least, when the National Archives was Begging Trump and his lawyers to turn over the records so they wouldnt have to make a referral to the fbi, before they basically got shown the door, when they were asking for these records, they were saying these are president ial records, theyre not your property, and the response that donald trump gave to his aides was, you know, theyre mine. So Executive Privilege . I can understand why people are concerned about. That but The Department of justice is ang Executive Branch that often helps president s sort out what is Executive Privilege. The Previous Department of justice helped donald trump sort out what was covered by Executive Privilege. So it is being in the Executive Branchs hands, it doesnt strike me as a massive catastrophe. But you know, i had a conversation yesterday with mitt romney, the senator from utah, a republican senator from utah, who was the governor of massachusetts, who obviously, where a plane full of migrants landed in Marthas Vineyard a couple of days ago and said yes as a stunt, but as a country, this is romney saying this, that one state cant bear the burden of all of these migrants coming into the United States. And there needs to be a way to spread people around the country. If they come to the u. S. Legally. Now thats his point of view. Now this gets to the root cause of this problem, which is this is one issue, i was just talking to a source today about this, one issue, immigration, where Everybody Knows the contours of a possible deal, which would be increase border security, for a pathway to citizenship, and change the immigration laws, and something that nobody has the political will and the political courage to dive into. I was going to ask, wheres the solution from congress . Theyre all, you know, fighting over this, and pointing fingers, although the republicans are pointing fingering saying everything is too loose, but where is the solution . Where is the legislation . Wheres the compromise . The solution is nowhere. Congress has tried multiple times over the last couple of years, and the last two presidencies, and has not tried in joe bidens presidency, i think because of covid and just the political dynamics and the posttrump era, but again, this is a very easy problem to solve. Now, on the ron desantis, greg abbott angle, i just got off with a republican consultant when i was on my way to be on tv with you, who said that the donor class, the far right conservative donor class likes this. Now, again, the morality of this aside, which is absolutely horrific, its human trafficking, it seems to be playing to kind of this base that is antiimmigration, and wants tighter borders, and wants to close the borders, as donald trump wanted to do, so i mean its pretty, its pretty shameful to think that these kinds of stunts can lead to an increased base of support in the republican party. So i understand the desire to spread people out, so that the entire country bears it. But isnt there a way to, and were seeing action behind us, forgive me, isnt there a way to come to an agreement about how that works . The federal government, would the white house get involved in that . Yes, i mean it there is some Central Authority should get involved, and the problem is, because of our patch work of immigration laws, the broken Immigration System that has existed, that by the way, both parties have indicated is broken, nonprofits, and Church Groups and all sorts of other kind of nongovernmental entities, have stepped in and taken the role of dealing with immigrants when they come to this country which again is a result of the fact that we dont have a comprehensive immigration plan, we dont have laws that are meant to resettle people when they come here, or deal with people when they come to the u. S. Without a purpose, or without legal documentation, and again, the solution is really clear, katy, the framework has been out there for a million years, and nobody has had the courage to take it on and try to get it across the finish line. And this is the beginning of the weekend. Well, exactly, and the government is now talking about people waiting for 24 hours. Just to let people know, where you are and where i am, behind me, you can see folks waiting, hoping for a glimpse of the king, and his sister, and brothers, coming for that vigil. So im just across what they call royal london, in westminster, behind me is Westminster Abby where the queens funeral will take place on monday and you are at Buckingham Palace, a short distance away. I think you havent quite yet seen the king leave, is that right . Were seeing, it appears we are seeing him, keir, right now because the crowd is starting to cheer. The motorcade is beginning. And it appears, yes, the Royal Standard has just passed by. Theyre on their way to where youre standing right now, keir for the Vigil Of Princes, 7 30 local, 2 30 eastern time, a little bit late but once they get in, they will begin standing. We saw a glimpse of it a few days ago when they were in scotland, and it was very solemn, and to see the crowd walk by as they were in there, unaware that they would get a chance not just to see the coffin of their queen but the new king. 15 minutes, some of those people who have waited for hours and hours, will get a chance to see the royals with their heads bowed and a pointed theme, coming into the line this afternoon, and looking at the newspaper, i mean the lighting in there, sort of punctuated by the scarlet uniforms of the guardsmen, the anguish across the people, even though they waited for ten hours, want to take their moms to pay their respects, young and old, people from all different backgrounds, a soldier, covered in medals, taking the salute, and i mean it was really quite emotional, and it will continue to be, and i think the royals themselves, to be a part of it, and to do this vigil is very, very important. This is the last major event of this week, this Vigil Of Princes, tomorrow, we will see harry and william do the same. And notably, harry will be allowed to wear his military uniform, whats the deal with that Change Of Heart . I think its come from the king directly. And i think there is support around whether he can, and he can with the permission of the regimented colonel of his regiment and that is ultimately decided by the king and the king ultimately decided that it can hbeen given to duke of york and harry should wear his uniform, too. And i think it was the right decision. The distraction, and the only people who saw that in the royal family, are andrew and harry. Oons. You know, were watching in Westminster Hall right now, where the king will appear probably in minutes, even less, andrew will be wearing his military uniform, as camilla said, we have seen active service but a bit of a controversy that he will be allowed to do it at all. There are things that this hall has witnessed beyond comprehension. And interesting to have the contrast between the ancient traditions and the multimedia age. And what struck me, probably in the last two decades, to be somewhere without use of my mobile phone. Very solemn in there. And weve seen the contrast between whats been going on with the pomp and pageantry and people filming on their iphone and filming the walkabout, that has transformed in the last few years, the idea that we can hear what theyre saying, greeting wellwishers, but as is always the case, the monarchy cant happen Behind Closed Doors and thats why the public has been let in themselves, the royals having a knowledged in their tributes how touched they are about the outpouring of support, and this is in a way, a way of paying the public back. They even found leather tennis balls in the rafters when they were renovating Westminster Hall when dates back to henry viii. Not real tennis. Protesting at that point. I think weve fixed your audio issues. I would love to hear your thoughts as we watch this. Yes, im sorry about that. I think one of the things that is important about the amazing public outpouring that were seeing is that it proves a fundamental theory of the monarchy which is that it is the focus of unity and continuity, in a way that the politicians can never be. And the queen has provoked this enormous response because she was so successful at conveying the nations sense of self, in the way that you need to do to have that unity and continuity. So the big question now is, can that continuity and unity continue . And leading the european union, brex it, is an act of very violent discontinuity, that was not anything to do with the monarchy, it was a political decision, and the king has no control over the consequences of that, so i think that aefds to adds to the kind of undertow that the many things that the new king will be confronted by. And you asked me about andrew appearing in uniform. I think it is very difficult to argue that the four children should not be there to do this, i think its much harder to argue that andrew should appear in uniform. I think it demonstrates a tour toward america because the feeling here i know, is it would upset a lot of people to see him reappear as though ess been totally taken back into the family, and it raises the question of what does a banishment really mean . Its fair enough. For family and emotional purposes for him to be there today but i think it adds another unnecessary i dont think it was necessary to put him back in uniform, because a lot of the armed services, 150 veterans of the armed services, complained to the queen in january, that he should be unable anymore to appear in uniform, because they felt he so dishonored their uniform and he dishonored their service, and i think this shows too much insensitivity to the opinion, i think in the u. K. , to some extent, but to a greater extent here, because of the connections with the ep stein and Ghislaine Maxwell scandal and the fact that it came out the other day from the former prosecutor of the Southern District of new york, that they were seriously hampered in the investigation by the United Kingdom government and the palace itself, in that they slowwalked all of the negotiations about andrew giving evidence in the case, and he never actually did give any evidence, and i think, as Jeffrey Berman says in his new book, they were very disappointed, because normally Scotland Yard collaborates very easily, and suddenly Scotland Yard itself clammed up. Allegations made by Jeffrey Berman, as you said, and there was also a man who heckled Prince Andrew in scotland who has detained by the police and the met had to remind its officers that britons enjoy free speech and theyre allowed, residents of this country are allowed to use that, and say what they want, and homicide up signs that they hold up signs that they want even in a timing of mourning. And keir, im struck, and everyone is talking and taking up their phones during the walkabout and during the procession and these line as i walk by them are happy and talk tive, but when you watch them inside, everybody is silent, nobody has their phone out. You can see people being overcome in the moment, with emotion, and some wiping tears from their face, as they pass by this coffin. Well, thats right, katy. And actually, just where we are now, you saw the king leave. We saw him arrive here. And there was a round of applause, across the crowd, as he arrived in the palace at westminster. And so they are obviously heading in there for this solemn vigil which we have seen in scotland, but of course, this is the queen now lying in state. And as youve been mentioning, Prince Andrew will be wearing his uniform. So there are some differences to what we saw in scotland, to what we are expecting now. And of course, fascinating, isnt it, to look at those pictures of the people, young and old, who stood in line, for well, talking about 4 hours now, the people 24 hours now, the people we spoke to had been in line for 10 hours and they still had a good three or four hours left to go and we were chatting with people across the river, just a few hours ago, i suppose, and it does appear to be building, all the time. For those folks, they are still walking through, the medieval Westminster Hall there, and with 900 years of history, they are Still Standing at the top of those stone stairs and just really describing it as being awestruck by the majesty of it, by seeing that Royal Standard draped across the queens casket and the imperial crown, with all of those diamonds on top. And so what we may see now, just as we did in scotland, are the queens children, her three sons and her daughter, going in there to pay their respects, just as everybody else is, of course, were not having to stand in line, plainly, but just taking part in a sense, rather than being given any particular kind of special privacy. And in scotland, it was quite a stunning moment for that reason, to see those senior members of the royal family, in what has to be a very private moment of contemplation, while other members of the public are walking by and having their own individual opportunities to say goodbye to their queen, it is quintessentially british, isnt it . And i think pretty good for that reason, and the other thing, about these lines, i mean, it is incredible, i mean we did see it back in 2002, when the queen mother died, but not like this, and even, and i was looking back at the history, even the queens father, george vi, doesnt appear to have had as many people as this, lining up, wanting to pay their respects. Of course it was a different era. And we now live in a time when we very much are more focused on the individual, and rightly so, perhaps, that people should have their own opportunities, and everybody and equally in that sense. But it is astounding to see these people lining up. And when i was talking to folks in line, you know, kind of having fun. One person had a great, we call it a cue here, obviously, as you know, one person had a great expression, that she described it as a cue family, and making friends over each other over the period of time that they were waiting and kind of enjoying each others company, and cracking jokes, and running out, and by the time we saw them ten hours later, they seemed still to have conversations. So the british like to cue. As we call it. And perhaps that is part of it. The culture of it. But at the same time, i think there is a certain kind of need to just take in the whole experience, not just those, where it is a minute or so, in that great hall, and not just that but the buildup and the chance i think maybe for a sense of community, at this time of grieving, and bereavement, not just for the royal family, but for the national family. So again, we are waiting for the queens children to arrive in that stately hall, and really just in a sense join that national mourning. You know, i understand the desire to get in line, and to see this in person, i mean you get these incredible images on camera, obviously, we have high definition, we can see the sparkle of the jewels, and theres nothing quite like being inside that room, and feeling the air in that room, the emotion in that room, looking um and seeing the rafters, and understanding that this is a moment in history that were likely not going to see again, certainly not any time soon, and it wont be like this, either, because king charles will not have sat on the throne for 70 years. No. But i do want to ask you, clive, because i know were seeing a Giant Outpouring of support, there are thousands of people coming, and the lines are incredibly long, 24 hours of waiting, but this is a moment where there are questions about the future and its also a moment with questions about the monarchy itself and colonialism. And when we look at that crown on top of the coffin, it is beautiful. It sparkles. I mean to see it in person would be incredible. But there are questions about the diamonds. I mean india has brought up questions about one of the big diamonds on the front of it, same with africa. Well, you cant get over the fact that the empire and colonialism were basically a way of taking the Natural Resources of many countries and turning them into the wealth that built the british em pire. Now, obviously you cant put the fingerprints of the Windsor Family on that, because it goes far back. But the windsors represent the institution, the crown, and its the crown in the end that has to accept that the crown is not just an abstract thing, its people running it, and they do have to accept that in the future, theyve got to address this whole question of reparations, because ive been reading things that people in jamaica are talking about today, and the jamaicans want to remind us that basically their country was looted for over two centuries, and the slave owners, when slavery came to an end, were recompensed by the crown and by the government, for the loss of the cheap labor, although they did continue to be cheap labor. So i think theres no reason why the british commonwealth, which is a very Good Organization of about 50 countries cant continue. The question is whether the crown should be the Head Of State of these nations and it can be a Republic Without British Head Of State. Clive, as you were talking, we saw king charles, princess ann, Prince Edward, Prince Andrew, walk in to Westminster Hall. They are going to flank their mothers coffin there. And stand in silence, for we believe about 15 minutes. Lets live in this for a moment. You just saw a mourner there crossing herself, the stirring sounds of that, what i call a sceptre banged off the ground and the way it drones off the floor and echoes through the rafters, it gets into your bones. It does. And it has been happening every 20 minutes as they change the guard and of course, the changing of the guard now is to the late queens own children. So this is a vigil that keeps on changing over, every 15 to 20 minutes, and this is her children playing a part in that. Not just as Family Members but also in with their own military commitment. And it is a moving scene. We heard Queen Elizabeth hold the orb at her coronation. What is the significance of it . It is almost like a symbol of the crown, other members of the royal family. The queen consort. Princess anns husband. And vice admiral lawrence and Great Children there. Acting like children. Children always acting like children. And we can also see some other royals that we havent seen so far, the duke of kent was there, on wednesday, when the whole family took place, and with their son, and some of the royals that you might see on the balcony at a much more celebratory time. The queens oldest grandson, there with his Daughters Savannah and ila and you might remember, katy, we saw these children on this very spot in june, for the jubilee, and those girls were entertaining Little Prince louie, duke and Duchess Of Cambridge youngest child. When we watched the platinum jubilee, we only saw a few royals on that balcony behind us where were standing, and that is likely what were going to see going forward, just a handful of them . Well, its part of it, it is that its an intention to have a slimmed down monarchy, but also part of it is by design. Some of the older member was royal family, the duke of gloucester, princess alexandria, theyre not going to be around forever. Some of them are already working behind Retirement Age so when the queen had to choose, she had a huge family to choose. From and there has been natural waste, the duke of york, no longer undertaking the royal duties, and the duke and duchess of sussex going to america. So almost naturally, there has been some slimming down. It might actually pose a problem for king charles, because he does need the support of his near and dear. Lets not forget the queen had Hundreds Of Patronages and royal associations, and now that they need to be distributed among the rest of the family, and has happened with all of the patronages in the past perhaps. And talk to me about tomorrow, and seeing prince harry and Prince William, i mean as we watched him walk by in the procession, it was hard not to think of them, the moment they were walking behind their mothers coffin, and so many comparisons have been made, Prince William himself was speaking with a mourner outside sandringham and said it was a very difficult job and im pair phasing. He acknowledged it. And we know we saw them come together in windsor and i dont think everyone expects that everything is all right between them. Conciliatory, but they are still brothers, and talking of course, and the vigil tomorrow is grandchildren paying their respects and we will have the Prince Of Wales at the head and the duke of sussex at the foot of the coffin as i think their late grandmother would have wanted. Is this temporary truce going to lead to lasting peace . Who knows. But there was a great divide between the once close brothers, and i mean theres a sense that all is not forgiven since. And that is still sort of hanging in the air. So is the forthcoming memoir. Hanging before the family. They dont know what is in them. It is very difficult. Which could be coming out early this this year, later this year, maybe early next year and it is said he might want to add some chapters about this experience right now, the passing of his grandmother. It has been a remarkable week here in london seven days since the ceremonies began last friday and it is no stretch to say that we are watching history unfold and the world will never be quite the same. So i think its worth taking a moment to look back at all that has happened. From the moment the family raced to her bedside, william and uncles, harry alone, it was hard not to expect the worst, and at 6 30, it came. Posted to the gates of her Summer Retreat in scotland. The queen died peacefully, at balmoral this afternoon. Queen elizabeth ii, the longestserving monarch in british history, who sat 70 years on the throne, dead at 96. A rainbow above windsor castle. Black cabbies lining the mall. Her son charles, now king. And to my darling mama, as you begin your last great journey, to join my dear late papa, i want simply to say this. Thank you. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. The motion set in plan 60 years in the making, called London Bridge is down, ten days of processions and pronouncements and pageantries born of another age. Where as, it is almighty god that called for his mercy, on our late sovereign lady, Queen Elizabeth ii, of blessed glorious memory. Forced into the modern age. For the first time in history, cameras in saint james palace, letting the public watch the formal accession. After all, the pomp needs the public and it is seeing the public too needed the pomp. Dear majesty, the day you came, it changed the way we knew britain. You have brought happiness and joy to this country. Hundreds of thousands poured into central london. A flood of flowers, and notes, Paddington Bears and so many Marmalade Sandwiches, the palace had to ask people gently for the sake of the pets, please stop. But time does not stop. Something the queen knew well. In the seven decades through war, cold and hot, marriage successful and not. The first female Prime Minister. The first black president. The first email sent by a monarch. And brex it. She was the countrys stillest point. Now, without her, movement from the commonwealth. I hope theyre mourning and celebrating. Questions of whats the point from The Caribbean To Australia and what might happen here, both in the home countries, and at home. After all, the queen is said to have been at her most powerful, as a uniter. In her death, she even got parliament to laugh as one, as told through an anecdote about dropped cheese at a picnic. Shes got a decision to make. [ laughter ] i picked up the cheese, put it on the plate and put it on the table. And i turned around to see that my every move had been watched very carefully by her majesty the queen. I looked at her, she looked at me and she just smiled. [ laughter ] and the cheese remained on the table. [ laughter ] on wednesday, in a Procession Reminiscent of the death of princess diana, the queens coffin left Buckingham Palace for the last time, headed for Westminster Hall. The queens accompanied italian Grenadier Guard raised it on a raised platform on a ceiling of med each timber, along with a few other tennis balls from the 1500s. And if you notice the sweat on their brows, well the coffin is lined with lead. And while angels may sing the queen to her rest, as quick charles put it, quoting hamlet, these guards must first lift a quarter ton, with a crown on top. Now, through monday morning, she is in the custody of her people, a chance for them to say one final thank you for everything. I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service. And it was, right up in until the end. Meeting Prime Minister liz truss, just a couple of days before she passed. It has been a trulgy amazing work. That will do it for me today. I will be back on monday for the funeral.
