Apr. 21 Beaufort County wants to ask the county s voters to decide two major proposals this November, as well as a new transportation tax in 2022.
The two issues proposed for this year a change in the county s form of government and a new tax would be placed on the Nov. 2 ballot if approved by council. They come as the County Council grapples with how to handle disagreements with, and harassment allegations against, its county auditor and as local municipal leaders lobby for a new countywide sales tax.
Beaufort County Council extends mask requirement
Bluffton Today
Beaufort County Council voted Monday to extend its COVID-19 emergency mask requirement, which has been in place since July 3.
The ordinance requires people to wear face masks and practice social distancing in commercial and public buildings in unincorporated Beaufort County.
There are exceptions to the mask requirement, including for those under the age of 2, those actively eating or drinking, swimming, receiving a medical procedure, and those in churches and gyms where social distancing policies are already in place.
The ordinance was renewed by an 8-3 vote. County code requires 75 percent approval to renew emergency ordinances, so all eight votes were needed.
