Railroaders rally in 7th to beat Angola

GARRETT — While there was no snow on the ground, Thursday’s windy conditions made it a tough day to be an outfielder. A deep, wind-blown fly ball that ticked off a glove and fell in for an error helped decide the outcome as Garrett came from behind to beat Angola 5-4 in a Northeast Corner Conference baseball game at Garrett. “To their credit, they never gave up,” Railroader coach Jason Richards said of his team. “I rode them; we were a little complacent when we came out here, and I think we thought we were pretty good at 5-1. “We needed a wake-up call. Angola’s a good team,” he said. “They’re going to fight with us every time. Big leaders stepped up at the end.”

Baseball team opens season with late romp

AUBURN — Garrett scored most of its runs late, giving new head coach Jason Richards a win in his first game at the helm. The Railroaders broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh to defeat Lakewood Park 10-1 at Auburn April 6. For most of the game, Garrett senior Gage Smith and Lakewood Park freshman Corbin White were locked in a pitcher’s duel. White pitched into the seventh when he was lifted after the first two Railroaders reached base on an error and a walk. He allowed eight hits, four coming in the sixth inning, five runs (only one earned), four strikeouts and three walks.
