Miro-Quesada WAILUKU Two police officers testified they were injured when they were both hit on the head with a weapon while struggling to detain a man who fled after smashing the window of a security vehicle last week. It was only after Cesar Miro-Quesada was handcuffed that police realized the weapon he had been wielding was a metal pipe. “To everyone’s surprise, it wasn’t a wooden stick at all,” said Wailuku patrol officer Scott McCalister. “It was a metal pipe packed with mud that had a slight bend to it.” McCalister and fellow officer Sonnie Waiohu Jr. testified Wednesday at a preliminary hearing in Wailuku District Court for Miro-Quesada, 28, of Lahaina.

lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU A man who was reportedly frustrated when he couldn’t find his vehicle keys was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly setting his van on fire at a gas station in Kihei. Reynaldo Onnagan, 45, was charged with second-degree arson and habitual property crime. He had parked his van near the car wash at Kihei Texaco at 1281 S. Kihei Road in a location that was 40 feet from gas pumps, 50 feet from a propane tank and 7 feet from a gas refuel receptacle, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Onnagan’s initial appearance Thursday in Wailuku District Court. “He was frustrated he couldn’t find his vehicle keys,” and began blaming employees, Yoshimoto said.

The Maui News WAILUKU A Hana man was arrested last week after police reported finding drugs and other contraband in his vehicle. Patrick Clark, 50, was charged with second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, prohibited possession of firearm ammunition, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug, deadly weapons prohibited, keeping ammunition in an improper place and four counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Clark was arrested Jan. 13 after police stopped his vehicle, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Clark’s initial appearance Tuesday in Wailuku District Court. After asking for permission to search the vehicle, police recovered drugs and an air gun, Yoshimoto said.

The Maui News WAILUKU Bail was increased to $10,000 for a man who allegedly pushed a barbecue grill into a store manager, then pushed a police officer to the ground before being arrested Friday in Kihei. Maverick Lau, 29, of Kahului was charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. The manager was setting up the grill in the parking lot of Times Supermarket at 1310 S. Kihei Road when Lau allegedly tried to steal the grill, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Lau’s initial appearance Tuesday in Wailuku District Court. When the manager grabbed the grill from Lau, he pushed it into her, causing the grill to fall, Yoshimoto said.

Woman in stolen truck has bail increased | News, Sports, Jobs

The Maui News WAILUKU Bail was increased to $20,000 for a woman who was allegedly driving a stolen truck when she fled from police Monday. Supiesi Tongi, 24, of Kihei was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to a vehicle or property, first-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and second-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle. During her initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in Wailuku District Court, she pleaded not guilty to the charges. The 2012 white Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen at about 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Haiku area, according to police.
