CHANDIGARH – In yet another bad day in terms of caseload and casualties due to the second wave of Covid sweeping the state, 8,015 fresh cases and 182 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours in Punjab. Apart from that, 240 persons are critical.
This is the highest-ever deaths and cases reported in a single day in the state. With the fresh cases, the number of active cases in the state has crossed 60,000. The total number of cases in the state has crossed four-lakh mark. So far, 4.07 lakh cases and 9,825 deaths have been reported.

The total liquid medical oxygen production by the steel plants was 3,680 MT, with private and public steel companies producing the bulk of liquid medical oxygen across the country.
Stepping up efforts to meet the nation s requirement of liquid medical oxygen (LMO), steel companies from both the public and private sectors have produced the bulk of LMO across the country.
While four cryogenic tankers have been airlifted by Indian Air Force from Perth, Australia, yesterday (5 May), 34 oxygen expresses are completing their journey, delivering more than 2,067 metric tonnes (MT) of LMO in 137 tankers.

Steel Authority of India (SAIL), one of the largest domestic steel producers, has been enhancing its capabilities to supply Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) in the country, and has doubled the capacity over the last few weeks.
In addition to supply of LMO, SAIL is going to set up additional 2,500 hospital beds, outside its current medical facilities, with the support of gaseous oxygen brought by dedicated gas pipelines from the plants. These beds will use gaseous oxygen directly as an additional source of oxygen as the demand for LMO is currently high, the company said in a statement.
