BMW plans to locally produce electric vehicles (EVs) in India as it expects to increase the share of EVs in sales to up to 25% by 2025 from 9% in H1 2023 . The move is dependent on the stabilisation of volumes and technology. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said once volumes grow, the company would localise production. In H1 2023, BMW sold 500 EVs comprising models like i7, iX, i4, and MINI SE, with 50% market share in the premium EV segment. The company aims to increase EV sales to 15% in 2024 and 20-25% by 2025.
BMW India sold 5,867 units in the six months to June 30, which is an increase of 5% over the same period last year. The company s EV sales in this period went up 11X. Top-end vehicles like the 7 series, i7, X7, XM too saw saw strong traction, with volumes going up by 128% in the first half of the year.
