just for everybody who s been paying attention to voting, and there s obviously been a heightened interest in it since the 2020 election. in what some people call the red mirage or the blue mirage. some states count early votes early. some don t count them early. pennsylvania, for instance, same situation. early votes tend to favor democrats. but they re not allowed to not only are they not allowed to count them ahead of election day. they re not even allowed to prepare them and get them ready just to hit the button. so, it s a lag the exact opposite of the situation here in georgia. it s just one state tonight, and just one race. so it is less confusing. if you go back to the 2020 example, early in the night joe biden was well ahead in ohio and well ahead in texas and well above even in florida. different states do it different ways. here in georgia we are seeing in most of these counties this is
blue mirage. virtually all the early votes is mail-in votes. they announce them early. we ve seen this before. tom tillis was behind in his races, won by several tens of thousands of votes, because the late vote to come in is the vote cast on election day. just to requeue, ohio was a hold. finishes also a republican seat they re trying to hold to know as is north carolina. yep. i have now for you the political comment of the evening. okay. maybe of all time. over on msnbc that the gop s dominance in florida is all about gerrymandering. [laughter] that s a story they will tell themselves. incidentally, on north carolina, just a few moments ago, the lead was 53,000. it s now down to 32,000.
blue mirage. it may seem in the early hours of the night that one party has a cleared a vantage but it may be short-lived. we ll guide you through this as the night goes on. martha: so this election comes as our nation deals with crises on multiple fronts. we have got run away inflation. we have out-of-control crime. and we have a disaster that has unfolded on the southern border. tonight will be the difference between what gets prioritized and what gets put to the side. here s how the numbers break down. first, on the senate side of the congress, where both parties have no room for error. there are 50 republicans and 48 democrats in the senate but you have got two independents who caucus with the democrats. that makes a total of 50 for each party. but democrats have control because they have vice president harris tiebreaking vote. republicans need to gain just one seat to take the majority. so the senate could come down to just a few key races.
Voters won’t immediately know the results of the 2022 midterm elections, with some of the most consequential races not expected to be called for days maybe even weeks.
2022. this is not an accident. this is part of the plan. all right, marc elias who is vigilant on this and is working on some of the responses to it. thank you so much for your time, appreciate. thank you. still ahead, democrats have a reason to be optimistic about the midterms, after recent special ex election success. but are the promising poll numbers part of another blue mirage? that s next. are you gonna stop me? uh-oh. i m almost there. too late! boom! earn big time with chase freedom unlimited with no annual fee. how do you cashback? chase. make more of what s yours. if you have this. consider adding this. an aarp medicare supplement insurance plan from unitedhealthcare. medicare supplement plans help by paying some of what medicare doesn t. and let you see any doctor. any specialist. anywhere in the u.s. who accepts medicare patients. so if you have this. consider adding this. call unitedhealthcare today
