BALTIMORE â With just 67% of American adults vaccinated with at least one dose by July 4th, the country has missed President Joe Biden s 70% goal by Independence Day.
Within Maryland however, 75% of adults across the state have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. We re getting a lot of people vaccinated, says Maryland Secretary of Health Dennis Schrader.
Adding, We ve still got work to do, and we re going to continue to encourage the unvaccinated to please, please, please, across the board, please get vaccinated.
Matt Beuschlein: How have the first few months been as the executive director of the OOCC?
Robin Rickard: “Now that the COVID numbers are going down, we want to take on a more aggressive role. Last week we were with the lieutenant governor in Baltimore County here in Maryland and we launched the Maryland SOS which stands for Stop Overdose Strategy.
We never stopped fighting the opioid crisis even during the pandemic, but now that we are healing from COVID, the state of Maryland is going to take an even more aggressive approach in combating the opioid crisis. We are excited to launch Maryland SOS. Together with our state, local, and community partners, we are going to keep fighting this fight.”
Maryland hospitals are still admitting COVID patients, but they are younger than at the start of the pandemic. They're still largely minorities and unvaccinated.
