Black and Brown People Need Better Access to COVID-19 Vaccine, Not More Talk One year into this global pandemic, we’ve lost more than 500,000 of our fellow Americans and close to 8,000 in Maryland. The approval of multiple, safe, and effective vaccines is a turning point and should inspire hope. Thus far, Maryland has fallen far short in our vaccination efforts. Our state is currently ranked 45 out of our 50 states in terms of the percentage of shots administered. A major reason why Maryland has ranked so low in vaccinations is the state’s lack of a simple and centralized process to sign up and get a vaccine.
