With the ongoing battle of the second wave of the pandemic, black fungus cases have increased across various states in the country. The black fungus infection and death tolls are reported to be maximum in Uttar Pradesh. The continuous rise in infection has made ten states declare it an epidemic. The Centre, on the other hand, has issued guidelines to the states to contain its spread.
States have now established an infection control committee headed by a nodal officer to look after the treatment and the spread of Mucormycosis.

Doctors at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi have confirmed the detection of Mucormycosis of the small intestine in at least two patients. According to the Health Ministry, the rare disease also known as Black Fungus has claimed a total of 219 lives across the country to date.
