Covid restrictions force cancellation of Hogmanay bonfire in Wick

Covid restrictions force cancellation of Hogmanay bonfire in Wick By Alan Hendry  |  Updated: 11:41, 22 December 2020 Get the Courier and Groat sent to your inbox every week and swipe through an exact replica of the day s newspaper Wick s Hogmanay bonfire has become the latest casualty of the coronavirus restrictions. The community event at the town s Bignold Park has suffered the same fate as other fire festivals across Scotland in having to be scrapped in the interest of public safety. The cancellation is especially poignant as it comes in the year that saw the passing of Wick historian Iain Sutherland, who revived the bonfire tradition in the early 1970s. He died in May, aged 83.
