The Trinamul Congress (TMC) and BJP supporters got into a scuffle in front of Naobhanga Primary School polling station, that prompted both BJP candidate Sabyasachi Dutta and TMC’s Sujit Bose to reach the spot. The day after the polls, too, trouble erupted in Duttabad as clashes broke out among supporters of rival parties at Duttabad, on the fringes of Salt Lake, that left five persons injured, police said. Ballot blues At around 10am, trouble started brewing at the polling station in Shantinagar when some women voters who were waiting in the school’s field alleged that that a group of unknown men had pelted stones at them.

West Bengal polls: 54.67 pc voter turnout till 1.30 pm in Phase-V ANI | Updated: Apr 17, 2021 14:16 IST Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 17 (ANI): West Bengal recorded a voter turnout of 54.67 per cent till 1.30 pm across 45 constituencies in six districts during the fifth phase of the state Assembly polls, according to the Election Commission (EC). Voting for the fifth phase of West Bengal Assembly polls began at 7 am on Saturday amid tight security. The highest voter turnout till 1.30 pm was observed at the Deganga Assembly constituency in the North 24 Parganas district with 65.90 per cent. Meanwhile, the lowest turnout was witnessed at the Kamarhati Assembly constituency with 26 per cent.

High voter turnout and sporadic incidents of violence marked the fifth phase of elections in West Bengal on Saturday. Polling was held in 45 Assembly seats across six districts three in north Bengal and three in south Bengal. Till 5 p.m. about 78.36 % voters had exercised their franchise.
