Huntsville Senior Softball Recreation League celebrated its 20th year with a barbecue and two five-inning games July 27.
Bernita Reese, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Huntsville, threw out the first pitch on field 1 at Brahan Spring Park. July is Parks and Recreation Month.
âAs always we honor our, as we say, our âseasonedâ residents,â Reese said.
The league is co-sponsored by Huntsville Parks and Recreation and the Huntsville Senior Center. Itâs for men 63 and over and women 55 and over.
âWe havenât lost our enthusiasm for the game,â Scott Apgar, the director of the Huntsville Senior Softball Recreation League, said.
Community Foundation Park opens in downtown Huntsville
With the addition of this park, there are now forty-seven acres of public green space in downtown Huntsville for you to explore.

City leaders dedicated the new Community Foundation Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.
The park is at the intersection of Dr. Joseph Lowery Boulevard and Pelham Avenue, in front of the Redstone Federal Credit Union building.
The park features benches, lights and an art installation.
City leaders say it s a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some family time. They re able to come and sit in the park. They re able to come and eat in the park and enjoy each other s company and walk the paths from here to another park that is right downtown, said Bernita Reese, Huntsville Parks and Recreation Director.
