They are usually not visible to us. And so after the rock fall occurs, we can see a lot better what was going on in there after the fact. Reporter with 150 deaths from 2006 to 2016, yosemite was the nations second most deadly National Park second only to lake meads 254. People falling or Natural Causes such as heart attacks while hiking are the most common reasons. Rock falls are very few and far between. We have a rock fall of the size that we saw yesterday every few years. The past 150 years there have been 1,000 major rock falls. Thats about 7 a year for the last 150 years. But few have ever claimed any lives. Even counting smaller falls, there are only about 80 significant yosemite rock falls a year. Thats enough to report. The contents of one mangled shipping container have largely been collected by a contractor hired by madsen shipping. Baker beach was clear by early afternoon but a coast guard advisory is still in effect. Basically telling mariners in the area that there may be containers and just to be extra cautious when transiting. Reporter this photo shot on sunday shows the metal container before it got ripped apart by massive waves. Another container was spotted near the pier in pacifica sunday. A city worker says that may have sung, but theres plenty of debris that has since washed ashore. All of the debris is pretty harmless, plastic baking pallets and styrofoam insulation from the walls of the containers themselves. All weve seen are the green plastic bins. Theres no evidence that there is Hazardous Material out there, but we do advise people to be safe on the beach today. Rare Fin Whale Washes Up at Fort Funston the Fifth Dead Whale Recorded Around Bay Area in Less Than a Month
There are just an estimated 3,200 fin whales in the waters off of California, Oregon, and Washington. Friday, one of them was found lifeless along the beach at Fort Funston having likely died from a boat strike.
Between a Super Cyclone (that was hinted as the Bay Area s best chance to get out of drought conditions) and an increasing number of dead whales washing ashore around San Francisco, it s a worrying sign of the hellacious times we’re in. The past 26 days have seen the corpses of at least four gray whales appear along Bay Area beaches in an almost unheard-of frequency.
