122-member tri-service Bangladesh Armed Forces contingent depart on 12 January 2021
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi Muhammad Imran on Sunday accorded a reception to a 122-member tri-service contingent from Bangladesh which will participate in India’s Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26, reports UNB.
Muhammad Imran spoke at the reception and described the participation of Bangladesh as demonstration of strong partnership and friendship between the two countries. It s a matter of pride, said the High Commissioner mentioning the importance of the year 2021 which sees celebrations of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 50 years of Bangladesh s Independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For the first time ever, a 122 member strong contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will participate in the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. Both countries 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties imbues the participation of such a huge contingent from a friendly neighbour in the celebrations, with special significance.Â
The contingent will be led by contingent commander Lieutenant Colonel Abu Mohammed Shahnoor Shawon and his deputies Lieutenant Farhan Ishraq and Flight Lieutenant Sibat Rahman. The contingent comprises soldiers of the Bangladesh Army, sailors of the Bangladesh Navy and air warriors of the Bangladesh Air Force.
Highlights
The majority of the soldiers in the Bangladesh contingent comes from the most distinguished units of the Bangladesh Army, comprising of 1,2,3,4,8,9,10 & 11 East Bengal Regiments and 1,2 and 3 Field Artillery Regiments, who had fought during the 1971 Liberation War.
With Bangladesh in focus, a vintage Indian Air Force (IAF) Dakota will do a fly-past at India s Republic Day parade on January 26th. The Dakota will be part of the Rudra formation along with 2 MI 171V. Dakotas had played a key role in Bangladesh s war of liberation in 1971 and was used to airdrop troops. In fact, Bangladesh s air force began its journey with gifted Dakotas from IAF.
