BJP state chief said, If things don t calm down, we will hold protests
Kolkata:
Within 24 hours of elections results, at least a dozen people have been reported dead in post poll violence in Bengal, a figure that may be higher than the number of those killed during the month-long polls.
Mamata Banerjee has called for calm though she has blamed the BJP for the violence. The BJP, led by president JP Nadda who is arriving in Kolkata on Tuesday, will hold a day-long protest across the country tomorrow, the day Ms Banerjee is sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time.
Bengal Assembly Election Results: Mamata Banerjee has been in power in Bengal since 2011.
Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power for 10 years, won a third term in West Bengal on Sunday. Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is leading in 213 of Bengal s 294 seats and the BJP appears set to finish below the 100-mark. The Trinamool Congress had surged to power in 2011, toppling the 34-year Left citadel. It only improved its tally by 27 seats in 2016. For Mamata Banerjee, this was arguably the toughest poll of her political career, with the BJP which won just three seats the 2016 Assembly polls pulling out all stops in the state in a determined bid to oust Ms Banerjee, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Modi.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will take oath as Bengal chief minister for the third on May 5, said senior leaders of the party. The oath-taking ceremony, however, will be low-key affair owing to the unprecedented rise in Covid case.
Mamata Banerjee was unanimously elected as the leader of Trinamool s legislative council at a party meeting on Monday. It was announced at a press conference by Partho Chattopadhyay and Subrata Mukherjee.
While other members of the party will take oath on May 6, Biman Banerjee has been selected as the speaker of the assembly.

Bengal Election Results 2021: Mamata Banerjee is nearly 5,000 votes behind Suvendu Adhikari.
New Delhi:
Mamata Banerjee is trailing in early trends in a prestige fight in Bengal s Nandigram where her BJP rival is her former trusted lieutenant Suvendu Adhikari.
A health warning these are very early leads.
Nandigram is the town that catapulted Mamata Banerjee to power in 2011.
In 2011, Suvendu Adhikari was Ms Banerjee s right hand man as she campaigned for farmers land rights and rallied people around the Trinamool. He later won from the constituency and for years, the Adhikari family had a firm grip over Nandigram.
Suvendu Adhikari s switch to the BJP led to a flood of defections from the Trinamool Congress and left her without many top aides.
