Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who led the ruling CPI(M)-headed LDF in Kerala to a resounding victory in the April 6 Assembly polls, on Monday resigned from the post, ahead of the new ministry formation.
Mr Vijayan drove to the Raj Bhavan around noon and submitted his resignation letter to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF finally broke the jinx by securing a second straight term in office, the state capital proved yet again that it holds the key to power. The fronts which had come up trumps in Thiruvananthapuram during the assembly polls in 2011 and 2016 went on to rule the state. And this time too, the capital testified to this as the LDF made a clean sweep of the capital upsetting the apple cart of Opposition heavyweights.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will take oath as Bengal chief minister for the third on May 5, said senior leaders of the party. The oath-taking ceremony, however, will be low-key affair owing to the unprecedented rise in Covid case.
Mamata Banerjee was unanimously elected as the leader of Trinamool s legislative council at a party meeting on Monday. It was announced at a press conference by Partho Chattopadhyay and Subrata Mukherjee.
While other members of the party will take oath on May 6, Biman Banerjee has been selected as the speaker of the assembly.

The Bengal wing of Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that at least six of its workers were killed across the state since Sunday. They also alleged that a few hundred party offices and houses of BJP workers were ransacked across the state as the counting progressed, and the trends became clearer.
