The 66th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival opened Friday evening with a hint of smoke still in the air from recent fires up north. But it was barely noticeable owing to the smoking hot music emanating from the stages that spanned the Monterey Fair & Event Center. And of course the smell of barbecue and other delectables masked what may have been lingering in the air.
