If caught drunk driving, Kolkata police will now not detain you or seize your vehicle but will ask you to arrange for a sober person to drive the car. The new protocol will become an integral part of the drink-drive Standard Operating Procedure. Drunk drivers will no longer be detained at the police station or have their vehicles seized. However, after bail, they will be presented in court the following day.
Notice For Unclaimed Cars: The city traffic police has completed its audit of all vehicles that are lying abandoned on arterial roads as well as bylanes connecting them.
