The residents of Yediyur and surrounding areas attribute hundreds of percolation pits and tanks constructed in storm water drains and parks in the area as the main reason for Yediyur to be water sufficient.
In response, the residents’ welfare association urged the BBMP Chief Commissioner to establish a policy framework ensuring the naming of common places does not insinuate, create conflicts of interest, or hurt the sentiments of any demographic group (caste, creed, or religion).
The CAF has cautioned the Deputy Chief Minister regarding measures to fix Bengaluru’s image. They argue that the city will be known as ‘Dirty Bengaluru’ if sewage continues to flow into stormwater drains and garbage is not promptly cleared. If urban poor and peripheral areas do not receive daily water supply and rely on private water suppliers, the city may become ‘Thirsty Bengaluru’. Violations of building bye laws, zoning laws, and other regulations could lead to ‘Lawless Bengaluru’.
“It is difficult to commute on most roads in and around Varthur, Hoody, Whitefield and other areas due to the potholes and the craters. We have been complaining to the authorities concerned about the bad condition of the roads, but nothing has been done to date to fix this problem,” said Jagadeesh Reddy of Varthur Rising.
It has been learned that some people have been trying to shift the name boards or put up new name boards due to the reasons known to them. The news of the alleged shifting of name boards to other locations on the road has got Kannada activists up in arms.
