republicans gathered as well, including in the state of georgia. democratic party electors met right up there in the senate chambers. they are official, they are certified and they voted for joe biden. but georgia republicans, they met as exactly the same time, right behind those closed doors. they are not official, not certified, they still met and chose donald trump. even as democratic party electors were meeting in the georgia state senate for the first time in 28 years to select a democratic vice president and vice president, one floor below, at the state capital, georgia republicans were meeting for their own meeting to select republican electors for donald trump. those fake republican electors signed forged certificates, purporting to be the real electoral college votes and, in other words, asserting that in fact donald trump had won georgia. those fake certificates were actually mailed to the national archives as though they were official. and it s not like they
jersey shore. and i am wishing all of you a very good and very safe night and a great weekend. from all of our colleagues across the networks of nbc news, i want to thank you for staying up late with us. i will see all of you next week. i will see all of you xtne week welcome to the special second hour on all in. it s made it clear that the march on the capitol on 2021 was arranged by donald trump and his allies with in fact a specific goal. it wasn t just an expression of anger at the supposedly stolen election, nor was it the idea that the mob would somehow disrupt the certification of joe biden s win and then magically donald trump would stay on as president. no. the plan was to put pressure on republican lawmakers and the vice president, mike pence, to carry out a very specific plan. and that plan was set in motion actually weeks earlier, back on december 14th. that was the day that presidential electors gathered in all 50 states to cast their official electoral college v
that was the moment i decided that i was going to resign. i simply did not want to be associated with the events that were unfolding on the capitol. for him to tweet out the message about mike pence, it was him pouring gasoline on the fire. it made it worse much worse. she looked directly at me and not hushed tone shared with me that the president did not want to include any sort of mentions a piece in that tweet. on january 7th, president trump still could not say that the election was over. this election is now over, if it is, congress has certified the results. i do not want to say the election is over. i just want to say congress has certified the results. we have much work yet to do. we will see you all in september. do we will see you all in september. good morning, saturday, july 23rd. i am sam stein in for my friend, the one and only, ali velshi. the senior special hour on this week s explosive hearing from the january 6th select committee. this week, commit
a small audience at the january six hearing on capitol hill with what ended up being a 12 minute snooze fest that was very heavy on rhetoric. the president of the united states trying to stop the transfer of power, a precedent that had stood for 220 years even as our democracy had faced its most difficult test. oh , i get it. so now bennie thompson cares about the transfer of power and making sure it works okay. remember, he s the same benneton who voted against certifying george w. bush s election win. and by the way, i m not even talking about the 2000 recount . we re talking about 2004 and the blowhard of the evening award goes to liz cheney. now if you saw her interview were rough to watch a little soporific when it was off the cuff. try watching her for 34 uninterrupted minutes of screen reading our oath to defend the united states constitution and that must mean something. tonight i say this to my republican colleagues who are defending me indefensible. there will c
[laughter] [drum roll] jesse: for years, the late night stopover has been a presidential staple. republican, democrat, doesn t matter. because comedy is bipartisan where it s supposed to be: you can jimmy fallon play a round with trump on one show and slow jamming the news with barack obama on the other. there will be no third term. i can t stay forever. besides, daddy has got a hawaiian vacation booked in about 232 days. but who is counting? if comedy isn t your thing, don t worry. we have a couple of presidents who know how to drop a wicked baseline. it wasn t just the smooth stylings of slick willie or richard nixon that made these presidential cameos part of tv history. it was the fact that they made themselves the butt of the joke. oh no, i don t think we could get dick nixon to stand still for a sock it to me. sock it to me? jesse: nixon isn t the only one with a sense of humor. george bush had a good laugh when giving us the top ten things he wanted
