Byesville Mayor appoints Daulton Dolan as new police chief

Byesville Mayor Jay Jackson has announced the appointment of Daulton Dolan as the new Byesville Police chief.
Dolan is a lifelong resident of Byesville and has worked for the village as an officer on and off since 2013. Dolan has been a full-time officer since September 2019 under former chief Jason May.
Dolan had also worked for the Barnesville Police Department, Senecaville, Marshal and the Monroe county sheriffs offices.
Dolan will begin his official capacity as chief when he is sworn in later today by Jackson.
Dolan said he looks forwards to working with the community and other agencies to not only continue but expand upon the services of the Byesville Police Department. He credits former Chief May for opportunity, guidance and leadership development.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Local officers say training, high standards, community connections and accountability are keys to success in law enforcement as reforms are being considered at the state and national levels.
The conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd last week and other incidents of alleged excessive force turned attention to the issue.
On Wednesday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced proposed legislation for police reform that could include a variety of measures.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE A Somerton man was arrested on drug trafficking charges following a search of his residence, which is known to local law enforcement as “meth mountain.”
William B. Kinison, 42, of 55346 McDowell Road is charged with second-degree felony trafficking in drugs, third-degree felony complicity and third-degree felony having weapons under disability.
The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit, with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Barnesville Police Department, executed a search warrant Monday at the Somerton residence. Sheriff David Lucas said the search warrant was the third executed at the residence that law enforcement has dubbed “meth mountain” over the past few years. He said the property is known to both local residents and law enforcement as “meth mountain” due to alleged drug activity.
An organization based in Bowerston that trained service dogs for veterans has lost its nonprofit status and is the subject of several complaints filed with the Ohio Attorney General s Office.
In addition, the property that Dogs 4 Warriors occupied is delinquent in its real estate taxes. The IRS has a tax lien on the property. A court judgment against the agency s former director says she owes $33,616.70 to Carrollton woman for use of her credit card.
Dogs for Warriors lost its tax-exempt status in 2019 after failing to file returns with the Internal Revenue Service for three years. In 2015, the last year for which the organization filed, it reported revenue of $80,351 and expenses of $98,555 on Form 990.
