The Indian Government has approved the development of phases 2A and 2B of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project. The estimated cost of the two phases is $1.96bn (Rs147.88bn). With one new 18.236km elevated line, phase 2A will run between KR Puram and Central Silkboard along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with 13 stations. It is to be built with the 73.92km-long Phase 2 project.

Bengaluru Metro: Modi Cabinet Approves Much Awaited Phase 2A, 2B Connecting Silk Board-K R Puram-Airport Namma Metro (@HardeepSPuri/Twitter) The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (20 April) approved Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2A and Phase 2B of total length 58.19 km. The total completion cost of the project is Rs. 14,788.101 Crore. Phase 2A is a 18.23 km long elevated line that proposes to connect K R Puram and the Central Silk Board along the outer ring road (ORR) while Phase 2B connects KR Puram to Bengaluru airport spanning a length of 37 km. ORR is among the densest corridors in the IT capital of India. It is dotted with major IT Parks that houses major companies such as Intel, AOL, Cisco and others.

Cabinet approves Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2A, 2B ANI | Updated: Apr 20, 2021 23:26 IST New Delhi [India], April 20 (ANI): The Union Cabinet has approved Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2A (Central Silk Board Junction to KR Puram) and Phase 2B (KR Puram to airport via Hebbal Junction) of total 58.19 km length. The total completion cost of the project is Rs 14,788 crore. An official release said on Tuesday that the implementation of the project will provide the much needed additional public transport infrastructure to Bangalore. It said the project will streamline the urban transportation system in Bengaluru, which is stressed due to intensive developments, increase in the number of private vehicles and heavy construction in the city putting stress on travel infrastructure and industrial activities. The project is also aimed at providing people a safe, secure, reliable and comfortable public transport. (ANI)
