There appears to be a consensus among political pundits that the rancorous primary election conducted by the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, prior to 2019 general elections, played a key role in the party’s loss of several states including Adamawa.
APC leaders in the state who had scores to settle with the former governor, Jibrilla Bindow, tried but failed to convince the party’s national leadership not to field the then incumbent governor.

Political bigwigs in Adamawa State, who have just been officially received as defectors from other parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), have vowed to play down on their personal ambitions to present an united APC against governing Peoples Demicratic Party (PDP).
They and their followers stated disunity within APC caused it to fall from power in 2019 in Adamawa.
Sen Abdulaziz Nyako, who left the APC towards the 2019 elections to become the governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and led the ADC to fuse into the APC during the weekend, said he and the other prominent politicians coming into the APC were resolved to forge an united front against PDP.

Former Adamawa Governor Bala Ngillari, says Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no future in Nigeria because it is a dying party.
Ngillari said this at the state All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting on Saturday in Yola.
The former governor who defected to APC in 2020, was the PDP’s Adamawa North Senatorial Candidate at the 2019 general election.
“One of the reasons why I dumped PDP for APC is that PDP is a dying party. In fact, PDP is dead and it will be buried in 2023.
“Secondly, I don’t see PDP as an alternative for the future of Nigeria, because the contradictions in the party will make its members go to the graveyard and we will help them bury themselves.

Former Governor Bala Ngillari, and Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa Northern Senatorial District, who defected to the All Progressive Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party, said they joined the APC to end the reign of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The duo who spoke separately over the weekend at a formal reception organised by APC to officially welcome them into the APC said they were desperate to sack governor Fintiri from power come 2023.
Ngillari said he left the PDP because it was a dying party.
The former governor who defected to the APC in December 2020 was the PDP’s Adamawa North Senatorial candidate at the 2019 general election.
