Leading the way for the Pirates (1-1) were Maya Pfaff with 13 points, Mariah Jahn and Josie Kozfkay with 7 points each, Maddie Geiger and Paige Anderson with 6 points each, Brenna Bischer with 5 and Leandra Wolschlager with 4. Pirates head coach Jim Tamlyn said the condensed season has started with a hectic pace that won’t let up until the season is over and his team is dealing with a short bench, but he and his players are happy to be back playing and they are looking forward to their matchup with Ubly on Monday night. He has two new varsity players in Bischer and freshman Jahn, and he was pleased with how the Pirates played as team on Saturday.

Hoops roundup: Laker, Harbor Beach boys pick up wins FacebookTwitterEmail Laker too much for Sandusky PIGEON The Laker varsity boys basketball team opened the 2020-2021 season at home on Wednesday night with a 57-39 victory over the Sandusky Redskins. After leading 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Lakers would go into halftime with a 24-19 lead. Sandusky (1-1) hung around in the third quarter, staying withing striking distance of Laker and trailing 35-28 heading into the fourth. Laker (1-0) would blow the game wide open with a 22-point fourth quarter and lock up the win. Leading the way for Laker was Sawyer Kozfkay with 18 points. Kozfkay was a perfect three-for-three from behind the three-point line. Also making big contributions were Anthony Sheridan with 11 points and Hunter Krohn with 10.
