Streaming on Netflix and starring Sanjay Dutt in the central role of a former Army doctor, Girish Malikâs Torbaaz fails to deliver on its promise. The theme, that of seeking harmony and peace through cricket in conflict-ravaged Afghanistan, was cut out for an absorbing screenplay. But writing (also Malik along with Bharti Jakhar) is the biggest weakness of this 133-minute-long unwatchable offering.

Torbaaz Movie Rating
Terrorism has spread its deadly effect all over the world. And one of the tactics used by terrorists to unleash fear and bloodshed is suicide bombing. According to a report, as of mid-2015, about three-quarters of all suicide attacks occurred in just three countries – Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, 1059 such attacks have taken place until mid-2015 with many of these attacks carried by child suicide bombers. Sanjay Dutt-starrer TORBAAZ focuses on this burning issue and it’s something that we haven’t seen in Bollywood films. So does TORBAAZ manage to thrill and entertain the audiences? Or does it fail to impress? Let’s analyse.

Writer-director Girish Malik s Torbaaz has been made for Sanjay Dutt – who is a messiah of sorts out to transform children in an Afghanistan refugee camp. As he, Naseer, says time and again that these “masoom” souls are not terrorists, but are unlucky to be living in camps that are the breeding grounds for violence and mayhem.
While this core idea may have some relevance in the distressing world we find ourselves in today, the film is so poorly structured and scripted that one can fall off to sleep. But for the last 20 minutes or so out of the two-hour-plus run time, Torbaaz drags its feet over inanity.
