Terrorism is a global issue and how it affects innocent children forms the theme of Girish Malik-directed Torbaaz, starring Sanjay Dutt and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles. The film, produced by Puneet Singh and Amardeep S Reen, has been released on Netflix and has received positive reviews from netizens.
Girish, who along with his team was in Chandigarh on Saturday to celebrate its release, says, “People have called me in the middle of the night to appreciate my work; someone cried and said they were moved by the film. Be it Instagram or Twitter, I am flooded with messages. The film’s theme is very serious, yet an inspiring one. There are many layers to it, but it explores the human angle in the larger debate about terrorism.”

One of the first things we see in Torbaaz is children playing a game of football. It reminded me of Afghan Girls Can Kick, a 2008 documentary about the first female soccer team of Afghanistan, as they rise over poverty and oppression to play their first derby match.
Girish Malik s film (out on Netflix) wants to tell a similar story, but brings an outsider’s perspective to its subject matter: young kids turning to sport in a specific context and time.
Naseer (Sanjay Dutt) returns to Kabul several years after his wife and son were killed in a bombing incident. Reluctantly, he helps Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri) run an orphanage his late wife had set up. A visit to a nearby refugee camp brings on a change of heart: instead of giving up on the kids growing up under the Taliban’s grip, he wants to introduce them to cricket, hoping it will nudge them to a better future.

Rating: 3.5 stars (out of 5)
When I saw the first frame of this film, it felt like I am watching a documentary on BBC Earth. An eagle, metaphorically used in the film s title, in hunt of a lamb. A decent scene, captured beautifully via the slow-motion technique, that made me check the menu option again to ensure I am still watching the movie and haven’t mistakenly turned on some Nat Geo show. It was precise, a visual delight!
Sidharth Shukla s alleged drunk video goes viral
After the release of Sadak 2, Sanjay Dutt is back in action with Torbaaz, another OTT release that premiered on Netflix on December 11, 2020. This action thriller is directed by Girish Malik, and it portrays the story of a doctor who works with a group of children to save Afghanistan from the clandestine clutches of terrorism.
Torbaaz conveys a strong message
Torbaaz begins in a very intriguing manner, where a small boy executes a bomb blast in the streets of Afghanistan. Later, the filmmaker reveals that boys are being widely used by the Taliban to conduct suicide missions in Afghanistan.
