Kathy La Sauce didn’t blaze trails during her 20-year Air Force career. She scorched them. She joined the Air Force in 1972, after receiving one of only two Officer Training School slots for the Long Island, New York area. “When I graduated from college, I wanted my life to matter so I looked at joining the Air Force,” La Sauce said. “Fortunately, the Air Force had just increased the number of women that would be allowed to serve, and it opened up some of the nontraditional career fields.” Her next stop was Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois, where she became part of the first maintenance officer class to include women.

The Induction Ceremony Will Take Place On March 12, 2021 WAI has selected the 2021 inductees for its International Pioneer Hall of Fame. These women will be honored during the Virtual 32nd Annual International Women in Aviation Conference, which will be held March 11-12, 2021. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, March 12, 2021. The 2021 Pioneer Hall of Fame inductees are: Joan Robinson-Berry recently retired as vice president and chief engineer for Boeing Global Services. Her accomplishments are numerous in the field of aerospace during her 33-year career that has broken barriers and elevated the industry. Joan’s trailblazing began early – she was the first African American from her childhood neighborhood to graduate from college with an engineering degree. Joan was the first female engineering graduate at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and the first African American program manager at McDonnell Douglas.
