AGP president Atul Bora at Kamalpur in Kamrup district on Sunday
GUWAHATI: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora on Sunday claimed that if the Congress-AIUDF combine comes to power in the state, the Assamese population “will become a minority in its own land”.
Bora, while participating in the ‘Jatiya Oikya Samarohs’ (national unity conclave) at the Kamalpur in Kamrup district, which is currently held by AGP legislator Satyabrata Kalita, said, “I am very concerned that if the proposed alliance of AIUDF and Congress comes to power in Dispur, the Assamese people will become a minority in their own land. Congress was responsible for safeguarding the illegal immigrants and it had paved away the path for the illegal immigrants to enter through the porous border. This led to the Assam movement.”
JP Nadda
GUWAHATI: BJP national president JP Nadda will reach Assam on Monday afternoon to start the party’s campaign for the ensuing assembly elections, which is likely to be held in April.
Nadda will hold a public rally ‘Vijay Sankalpa Samabesh’ at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar in Barak Valley, followed by a meeting with the top leadership of the state BJP, including its Assam president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati.
“He will review every aspect of the preparation of the party, including booth-level work, party’s stronghold, weakness, public sentiment, acceptance, strength in minority seats, Barak Valley and upper Assam,” Diplu Ranjan Sarma, general secretary of the state BJP, said.
