GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday address a rally for the upcoming assembly elections at the historic Jerenga Pathar in Sivasagar district, where sati Joymoti Konwari had set an example with her message of righteousness more than 300 years back.
“The rally from the historic field, which sets an example of true patriotism, will convey a message about the BJP’s commitment on the principles of truthfulness and selfless attitude, for which Joymoti was known. It also implies that the party’s relentless efforts to protect the greater Assamese community and to establish peace and tranquility in society fighting against the enemies of the state,” Rupam Goswami, chief spokesperson of the state BJP, told TOI.
BJP national president J.P. Nadda on Monday said the ruling party was, is and will remain committed to protecting Assam’s culture, language and identity but remained silent on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, just like Union home minister Amit Shah during his poll-oriented visit to the state in December last year.
Addressing a massive Vijay Sankalpa Samabesh at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar town in Cachar district, Nadda said: “ It is our responsibility. The BJP has always given due importance to the protection of Assam’s culture, language and identity. It is also working for the development of the state by ensuring the interests of all communities.”

GUWAHATI: BJP national president JP Nadda will reach Assam on Monday afternoon to start the party’s campaign for the ensuing assembly elections, which is likely to be held in April.
Nadda will hold a public rally ‘Vijay Sankalpa Samabesh’ at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar in Barak Valley, followed by a meeting with the top leadership of the state BJP, including its Assam president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati.
“He will review every aspect of the preparation of the party, including booth-level work, party’s stronghold, weakness, public sentiment, acceptance, strength in minority seats, Barak Valley and upper Assam,” Diplu Ranjan Sarma, general secretary of the state BJP, said.
