On Friday, 45 men, 21 women and two children who have been "declared foreigners" by the quasi-judicial Foreigner Tribunals and those convicted by judicial courts of visa violations were shifted to the detention centre.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier criticised the Museum, saying cultural artifacts being displayed represented Assamese identity as a whole and not that of the state's Bengali-speaking Muslim community.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday attacked two new regional parties in Assam, one of them formed by a group headed by jailed peasants’ rights activist Akhil Gogoi, for their “apparent objective” to help the Congress win the upcoming Assembly polls.
With the election in Assam two months away, the Congress's anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA "gamosa collection drive" started today. College students, entrepreneurs, senior citizens and private sector employees, among others, have given support to the party and handed over gamosas - a tradition cloth in Assam - signed by them to Congress leaders and workers.
