UPHS-M ancillary staff file to form union with MNA | News, Sports, Jobs

rspitza@miningjournal.net MARQUETTE Ancillary staff at UP Health System – Marquette have filed to form a union with the Michigan Nurses Association, the MNA announced Monday. A supermajority of UPHS-Marquette ancillary staff filed paperwork with the National Labor Relations Board on April 26 to have an election to form a union with the MNA, according to an MNA news release. “Should the unionization effort be successful, it would be one of the largest groups of health care workers to win a union through the NLRB since the start of the pandemic,” the release states. If the plan comes to fruition, ancillary staff would be joining over 300 UPHS-Marquette nurses who are currently MNA members.

Aspirus Keweenaw welcomes Matt Krause, Chief Administrative Officer | News, Sports, Jobs

Jenn Jenich-Laplander LAURIUM – Aspirus Health has hired Matt Krause, MBA, as chief administrative officer for Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics. Beginning Apr. 12, Krause will be responsible for daily operations of the hospital and clinics as well as provide direct oversight and direction for these locations. Krause brings more than 23 years of health care experience to his new role at Aspirus. He began his career working with patients as a radiographer and CT technologist. His skills and knowledge quickly earned him leadership roles, first within radiology and then in overall hospital operations. He comes to Aspirus from OSF St. Francis Hospital and Medical Group in Escanaba where he served as regional director of operations.

Jennifer Jenich-Laplander LAURIUM – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics is pleased to welcome board-certified General Surgeon Wendy Frye, MD, FACS, to its excellent surgical services team. Dr. Frye joins the general surgery team in delivering a higher level of comprehensive surgical services for patients of all ages in the Keweenaw area. She is now seeing patients in Houghton and Laurium. Dr. Frye specializes in all aspects of general surgery. She completed her general surgery residency at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and earned her doctorate from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Mich. Prior to joining Aspirus Health, Dr. Frye was a general surgeon in Vermont and at Munson Healthcare in Gaylord, Michigan.
