HOUGHTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A downstate child has drowned in a U-P lake. According to WLUC-TV6, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post were dispatched to the Torch Lake area last Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning. The Brighton area family was camping in the area when their 20-month-old daughter wandered off. She was found unresponsive a short time later in Torch Lake. Three of five firearms stolen from Harter’s Party Store in the Village of Calumet were recovered in a wooded are in the city of Houghton.
Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and a Trooper from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post arrested a juvenile and a 17 year–old–male.
The arrests stemmed from two separate Breaking and Entering complaints that occurred this month at Harter’s Party Store.
The juvenile was turned over to his parents and the 17 year-old-male is lodged at the Houghton County Jail.
