New Year Isle of Wight Foundation cash boost for local charities | Isle of Wight County Press

FOUR charity projects that use computer technology to reduce social exclusion on the Island have been boosted by funding from the Isle of Wight Foundation. They will share a total of nearly £30,000. Each year, the foundation supports projects working to tackle social exclusion on the Island. Since 2014, it has awarded more than £543,000 to such good causes. In the last 12 months alone, more than £73,000 has been shared between ten local projects. Mountbatten hospice will use its £6,700 to purchase 30 laptops for its Neighbours remote support initiative while Aspire will use the £6,730 grant to provide computer equipment and furniture for a new skills hub.

Ryde Academy’s Student Council organised its annual food collection for the Aspire Ryde community hub, which supports families in need. The collection gave students the opportunity to aid their community while winning points for their House for the number of items donated. Blue House won with 211 items of food donated, followed closely by Yellow House with 206. Third place went to Green House which collected 162 items of food and Red House donated a further 152 items. Steve Johnson from Aspire, who collected the donations on Wednesday December 16, said: Thank you to all the students, families and staff who donated to Aspire.

AN ISLE of Wight web design studio has completed its yearly mince pie marathon charity campaign, raising an enormous sum of money for the Wight Brainy Bunch. Brightbulb Design, together with headline sponsor WightFibre, have raised more than double what they had last year ­ a staggering £6,415 for the charity through the sale of mince pies. More than 6,000 mince pies were sold, delivering to 153 destinations in a single day, making it the biggest mince pie extravaganza the Island has ever seen. Local businesses took part in the event, with Cowes Site Employees Charity (BAE Systems) topping the leaderboard through the purchase of 684 mince pies, all of which were donated to the Isle of Wight Foodbank to support local people with emergency food over the Christmas period.
